Texas will be on the road this weekend with two stops in Utah. First, the Longhorns will be taking on a BYU team fresh off an win over former No. 11 Long Beach State as well as a shutout win over Colorado College last weekend before facing Utah Saturday.
Texas goes into Provo, UT at an interesting time in the BYU schedule. The Cougars could be looking ahead to a Sunday match against No. 7 Penn State, which could work in the Longhorns’ favor. Texas is on a two-game skid heading into its date with BYU, and picking up a win on this road trip could be crucial as Texas approaches conference play.
Right now, Texas is treading water with a .333 record and will need some signature wins for when tournament time comes around. This BYU team is returning seven starters from the 2011 team that won 11 matches. Additionally, BYU was second in the nation in average attendance last season, meaning that Texas may be walking into the harshest environment it could face all season.
This game also marks the first time Texas has played on a Thursday since a 3-1 win over Kentucky in Lexington back in 2008.
The game against BYU will begin at 8 p.m. and is the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s College Game of the Week. That means that the game will be televised on Fox Soccer, with coverage beginning at 8 p.m.
