The ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Los Angeles concluded yesterday afternoon. Florida’s Lauren Embree, seeded third in the main singles draw, defeated upset-minded Julia Elbaba of Virginia, seeded 32nd in the draw, (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) to win the singles championship.
For the Longhorns, their week of disappointment is over. Senior Aeriel Ellis played Georgia State’s Abigail Tere-Apisah. The first set was a competitive one but Ellis lost the set 5-7. She would lose the match with a 1-6 loss in the second set.
Ellis leaves her final appearance in the All-American Championship with a 0-2 record to show for it, dropping her to 2-4 on the season. Her loss gives the Longhorns a 4-6 record during the championships. Junior Elizabeth Begley and sophomore Lina Padegimaite were the only ones to win multiple matches, with Begley claiming two in singles competition and Padegimaite getting one each in singles and doubles play.
The women have a week and a half off as they prepare for the ITA Texas Regional Championship in Waco Friday.
