Women’s tennis heads to California for three-match road trip

The Longhorns (3-5) have been down as of late, having lost five of their last six matches, all against ranked opponents.

As a result, the team has dropped to No. 38 in the rankings after starting the season at No. 11.

A turnaround is needed if the Longhorns plan to make the NCAA Championships.

The team will play in California from Sunday to Wednesday against Stanford, USC and San Diego. All three are ranked, with USC the highest at No. 12.

The top of the Longhorns’ order will have plenty of competition in singles play. USC has three singles players ranked ahead of Texas’ No. 28 Aeriel Ellis. Stanford has five players ranked in the top 125.

Sophomore Noel Scott will look to get out of her four-match losing streak. Her record stands at 1-5 for the spring season.

Ellis also needs a strong showing in her next three matches. The senior is 3-3 and is on a two-match losing skid. Her last win came against a lower ranked opponent.

Texas begins its road trip Sunday in Palo Alto against No. 20 Stanford.
