Desiree Dubreuil and Madison Pressel led the Longhorns women’s golf team to a tie for third place in Sunday’s opening round of the SDSU Farms Invitational.
At The Farms Golf Club, Dubreuil and Pressel each carded two birdies on their rounds of 3 over par. Both golfers are tied for 13th on the player leaderboard. Sophomore Bertine Strauss shot a 4-over 76 and finished tied for 19th. Senior Katelyn Sepmoree finished a stroke behind as she carded a round of 77.
Freshman Tezira Abe finished the Easter Sunday opening round with a 6-over 78. Freshman Natalie Karcher is competing as an individual in the tournament. She finished with a score of 5-over par.
Golfers endured partly cloudy skies on the par 72, 6,211-yard course. The top-ranked USC Trojans lead the tournament at 10-over 298. UNLV finished the first round in second place, a stroke ahead of the Longhorns at 14-over 302. Hana Lee of Northwestern is atop the player leaderboard as the only player under par. She shot a 70 and finished at 2 under par.
Second-round action begins Monday.
