After defeating UTSA, Wichita State, LSU and Rice in the F.A.S.T. Tournament in Houston and Wichita State last weekend, Texas will face New Mexico State Saturday in Austin.
Rising junior outside hitter Haley Eckerman impressed last weekend, leading the team with 25 kills and five service aces. Rising sophomore libero/outside hitter Amy Neal showed greater presence on the court, adding 10 kills and three service aces during the five-set win against Wichita State. Newcomer Chloe Collins, an incoming freshman setter, added four kills and 18 assists in her first game at Gregory Gym.
New Mexico State defeated Idaho to become Western Athletic Conference Tournament champions last year before losing to BYU in the NCAA Tournament. Two of its members, outside hitter Meredith Hays and middle blocker Desiree Scott, were named to the WAC First Team last season.
