For the fourth time this season, the Longhorns found themselves on top of the leaderboard after the final round after winning the Morris Williams Intercollegiate tournament this past weekend. Texas finished the tournament with a score of 4-under-par 848, five shots ahead of second place Texas Tech.
Texas began the tournament trailing TCU by eight shots after the first round Saturday morning, but came back with an 11-under 273 in the second round on Saturday afternoon to put themselves in a tie with New Mexico and TCU. Sunday, the Longhorns shot a 2-over 286 while New Mexico and TCU fell back in the final round.
Senior Cody Gribble finished the weekend as the highest Longhorn, placing fifth with a 3-under 210. Sophomore Kramer Hickok finished in a tie for seventh with a 1-under 212. Freshman Brandon Stone, senior Julio Vegas and Toni Hakula ended the tournament in a tie for 19th with 4-over 217. Texas Tech’s Finely Ewing IV won the individual title with a 7-under 206.
The tournament was the last regular season tournament of the season for the Longhorns. Texas will travel to Hutchinson, Kansas next week for the Big XII Championship Tournament April 22-24.
