Outside hitter Bailey Webster, a rising senior, lead the Longhorns in their victory over New Mexico State Saturday in Austin with 14 kills.
Webster and All-America outside hitter Haley Eckerman powered the first set, while rising sophomore libero/outside hitter Amy Neal continued to strut her skills on the court, adding four kills.
It was incoming freshman Chloe Collins who closed the second set on a kill after pulling further away from the Aggies toward the end of the set.
Texas overcame a 12-12 tie in the middle of set three to rally and close the set, 25-19. The Longhorns squashed any remaining Aggie hopes in the fourth set, punctuated by Neal, with a decisive 25-9 victory.
In the final set, the Aggies crept up close to the Longhorns’s lead but were unable to grab the advantage. Texas concluded the fifth at 15-11.
Spring play for the Longhorns will wrap up next weekend in Dallas at the Collegiate Showcase.
