Despite rainy conditions, Texas claimed victory in both the men’s and women’s competitions on Friday at the Ricardo Romo Classic in San Antonio, beating both UT-San Antonio and UT-Pan American.
For the men, it was senior Austin Roth who led the way crossing first overall, finishing with a time of 15:41 in the 5,000-meter race. The men’s overall first-place tally was 19 points.
Senior Megan Siebert clocked a 17:45.9 on her way to first place in the women’s race. Her mark beat the rest of the field by more than 10 seconds and helped secure the Longhorn’s 27-point victory.
“It was rainy, windy and muddy, but good cross country weather,” cross-country coach Brad Herbster said. “We have some things we need to work on, but for running partial squads, it was a solid effort.”
In total, both the men and women had 11 contestants finish eighth or better on Friday.
