Our top six favorite secret celebrity weddings

Didn’t hear the wedding bells? Don’t feel bad, no one did.

The most recent celebrity to secretly say “I do” was Zoe Saldana who married artist Marco Perego in June, but Saldana is not the first to stray away from the limelight when it comes to marriage. There seems to be a growing trend of privacy in Hollywood. While some celebrities like to put lives on display, more stars are starting to shield their private lives.

Take a walk down memory lane with a look at our top five favorite secret celebrity weddings and the powerhouse couples that said “I do”:

Our fifth favorite secret wedding belongs to Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz. This couple exchanged vows in July 2010. The couple had an intimate ceremony with only close family in attendance. Weeks later, news of their marriage broke and fans were nothing but happy.

When it comes to fourth place, we have a tie. Four holds a special significance for superstar Jay-Z and leading lady Beyoncé. Both singers have the Roman numeral IV tattooed on their ring fingers to symbolize their birthdays and their wedding day. The hip-hop mogul wed Beyoncé on April 4, 2008 after six years of dating. While the marriage itself came as no surprise to fans, the wedding was a secretive success. News of their marriage did not break for more than two weeks.

Tied for fourth are Daniel Craig and fellow actress and “Dream House” costar Rachel Weisz. The pair exchanged vows in New York in June 2011 with their children in attendance. Currently, the couple can be seen on Broadway playing an adulterous twosome in “Betrayal.”

Number three on our list is none other than “Scandal” beauty Kerry Washington and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha. Washington created a scandal of her own when she wed San Francisco 49ers’ cornerback Asomugha after a year of dating, which was also a surprise to fans. The couple said “I do” in Idaho in late June 2013. In July, an Idaho marriage license surfaced confirming the marriage. Talk about flying under the radar .

After five months of dating, Carey Mulligan married Marcus Mumford of the band Mumford & Sons. The two said “I do” at a farm in England, with a slew of famous faces in attendance including actor Jake Gyllenhaal. As kids, Mulligan and Mumford were childhood pen pals, which seals this couple as our pick for second-best secret celebrity wedding.

What makes Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds our No. 1 couple? For starters, their low profile jet-setting adventures and their affection on the red carpet. Lively and Reynolds met in 2010 on the set of “The Green Lantern.” After a year of dating and red carpet appearances, the pair wed in September 2012 in Charleston, S.C. The marriage came as a shock to fans. Prior to their marriage an announcement of engagement was not made.

Whether news of their marriage broke a few hours or a few months afterward, one thing is certain: These celebrity marriages were low-profile affairs centered around the couple.
