The fourth-ranked Longhorns will take on teams from across the nation this week at the Texas Invitational. The annual three-day meet was called the USA Swimming Winter National Championships last season, where Texas swimmers claimed five top-five finishes.
This year the Longhorns host stiff competition at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center as they face off against ranked opponents including No. 7 USC, No. 15 Arizona and No. 14. Penn State.
The meet will feature all 18 swimming events contested at the Big 12 and NCAA Championships, which will also be hosted in Austin. The championship-style meet will also give the Longhorn swimmers their first opportunity of the season to compete in a preliminary qualifying round to determine if they will swim in the finals.
The men have backed off their weight training, and fans can expect to begin to see NCAA qualifying times. The invitational will begin Thursday and will run through Saturday.
