The Longhorn women climbed back to No. 1 this week and are set to end regular season competition this weekend with their biggest challenge of the year. The team will split up, sending their distance runners to the Iowa State Classic in Ames and their sprinting and field contingents to the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
“This will be the toughest competition,” head coach Mario Sategna said. “This is two weeks out from everybody’s conference championship.”
In Iowa, the Longhorn distance runners will defend their top ranking against No. 11 Kansas and No. 7 Kentucky.
The sprinters and field participants competing in Arkansas do not have it any easier as they prepare to take on six top 25 teams including No. 4 Florida.
The Longhorns’ performance this weekend will set the tone for a return to Iowa in two weeks for the Big 12 Indoor Championship.
