Women’s tennis snaps streak, splits the weekend

The Longhorns ended their six-match losing streak Friday against No. 30 Houston before falling to No. 6 USC on Sunday.

No. 26 Texas (4-7) had not won a match in more than a month when it claimed its first doubles point against the Cougars. Winning four singles matches, the Longhorns clinched the match 5-0.

Sophomore Breaunna Addison and freshman Neda Koprcina led Texas throughout the weekend. Addison defeated two ranked opponents, including USC’s No. 26 Sabrina Santamaria. Santamaria was forced to retire because of injury. Koprcina also swept her matches, one of which was against the Trojans’ No. 99 Giuliana Olmos.

The Longhorns’ match against USC on Sunday moved to the Weller Indoor Tennis Center because of cold and wet conditions, marking the women’s first match at the venue.
