UT ranked 28th in Times Higher Education world ranking

UT has been recognized as the 28th-best university in the world and sixth-best among public universities in the U.S., according to the 2014-2015 Times Higher Education World University ranking released Thursday.

The London-based Times Higher Education uses 13 factors grouped into five categories — teaching, research, citations, industry outcome and international outlook — to examine universities.

According to the ranking, UT’s highest marks were in the categories of research and citations, as measured by the number of times faculty members’ studies are cited by peers, and overall research, which includes funding, number of articles published and their quality. The University also scored high in teaching, which is based largely on the university’s reputation among scholars.

For 2014-2015, UT was also ranked 29th in the world by the Center for World University Ranking in Saudi Arabia and 39th in the world by the Academic Ranking of World Universities, which is compiled at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The University was also listed 53rd in the nation by the 2015 U.S. News and World Report ranking.
