Stay active with these places to workout daily in Austin

With the blazing heat and lazy summer days, motivation to stay fit is quickly melting away. Whether it’s eating a juicy watermelon after a pick-up game of volleyball or sharing a cold pitcher of beer after a long run, here is a list of places to get your daily dose of activity in Austin.

Friday Truancy Ride

When: Friday, 2:30 p.m.


Where: Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop, 400 Nueces Street

Cost: Free

Every Friday, this intermediate level bike ride helps cyclists start their weekends with a challenging afternoon ride through neighborhoods, official bike routes and a few hills. The 30-mile path will be completed at a pace of 17-18 mph.

Zilker Park Sand Volleyball

When: Saturday,  

Where: Zilker Park Sand Volleyball Courts

Cost: Free

Participants of all skill levels can head out to the Zilker Park volleyball courts early on weekend mornings to join others in free pick-up sand volleyball games. Lines and volleyballs are not provided, so be sure to bring extras.

Eastside Yoga

When: Sunday, All day

Where: Eastside Yoga, 1050 E 11th St.

Cost: Donation based

Classes of different lengths allow participants of all levels and needs to be satisfied at Eastside Yoga. Every Sunday is based on a community donation which allows yoga lovers to explore different classes and instructors.

Austin Runners Club Monday Night Run

When: Monday, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Ready to Run, 3616 Far West Blvd.

Cost: Free

Runners of all paces are welcome to join the Austin Runners Club at Ready to Run in Northwest Hills for varying paces on three to six mile Monday night runs. Be sure to bring a waterbottle and a signed waiver from the Austin Runners Club website.

Luke’s Locker Taco Deli Taco Run

When: Tuesday, 6 a.m.

Where: Luke’s Locker, 115 Sandra Muraida Way

Cost: Free

Start Tuesdays off on the right foot by meeting at the fitness store Luke’s Locker at 6 a.m. for 4-7 mile runs. Afterward, participants can return to the shop to enjoy complimentary Taco Deli tacos.

Austin Beer Run Club

When: Wednesday, arrive 6:30 p.m., run begins 6:45 p.m

Where: Uncle Billy’s Brewery & Smokehouse, 1530 Barton Springs Rd

Cost: Free

Participants begin their Wednesday evening at Uncle Billy’s by placing valuables in a secure basket, circling their desired beer and food on a menu form, and handing payment to a server. After they run a 5k on the Lady Bird Lake trail, runners can reconvene at Uncle Billy’s to enjoy their pre-ordered food, drink and good company.

Thursday Night Social Rides

When: Thursday, 7 p.m.

Where: Festival Beach, 2101 Jesse E. Segovia St.

Cost: Free

Adult cyclists of all levels are welcome to take part in this socially paced 12-15 mile ride. Each week, the ride begins at Festival Beach and ends at a different bar.
