After releasing their self-titled debut album in 2013, Wildcat Apollo relocated to Austin from Brooklyn. The indie rock band draws influences from psychedelic and folk music, utilizing a cello and synth player. Ethereal and energetic songs such as “High and Low” balance the influences. Despite being relatively new to the music scene, the band was awarded “Best Rock Song” by the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for their song “The Colorado” in 2013.

In between producing for artists such as Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Maroon 5, electronic duo The Knocks also works on remixes and their own originals. The group released their third EP, "So Classic," this April to tease their upcoming debut album. Songs such as “Classic” and “Dancing With Myself,” combine modern songs with disco beats. The result is a collection of five retro party anthems.

Austin-native Danny Malone’s upbeat music often masks his less than traditional past. After struggling with addiction and a stint at therapeutic boarding school Hidden Lake Academy, Malone relied more than ever on his music to overcome his problems. In his past three albums, Malone has refrained from sticking to a single genre, instead writing folk, electronic and hip-hop songs such as “Sugarwater” and “Haunted, My Only.”

Philadelphia-based indie band Good Old War released their fourth album, Broken Into Better Shape, this July. The album came in the wake of drummer Tim Arnold’s departure, although some of his contributions appear. With this release, the band leaves their folk influences behind, opting for more pop-oriented songs, such as “Tell Me What You Want From Me.”
