As UT continues to discuss implementing campus carry, more than 50 members of the psychology department signed a statement voicing opposition to the law.
This statement is against Senate Bill 11, which was passed by the 84th Legislature in the summer and will allow concealed handgun owners to legally carry on a college campus, starting Sept. 1, 2016. More than 600 600 faculty members at the University have expressed disagreement with the law through a petition stating they will not allow guns in their classrooms, and economics professor emeritus, Daniel Hamermesh, said he will leave the University in fall 2016 because of the law.
