Three Longhorns compete in as individuals in El Paso

Juniors Beau Hossler and Gavin Hall and sophomore Doug Ghim competed in the Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic over the weekend in El Paso. The tournament was an individual competition and an invitation-only showcase for the best college golfers in the country.

Hossler shot rounds of 74, 69 and 68 to finish at 2-under par and in a tie for fifth. He is the No. 1-ranked player in the country, according to Golfweek.com, and October’s Big 12 Golfer of the Month.

Hall finished at 3-over par and in a tie for 11th after firing rounds of 69, 75 and 72. Ghim shot rounds of 75, 73 and 73 to finish in 16th at 8-over par.

Vanderbilt senior Zack Jaworski finished at 6-under par to take a two-shot victory.

Texas’ fall season has come to a close. The Longhorns placed eighth at the Fighting Illini Invitational, tied for fourth at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational and tied for sixth at the U.S. Collegiate Championship. Texas’ fourth tournament would have been The Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, but it was canceled because of inclement weather.

The Longhorns are slated to play seven tournaments in the spring season before traveling to Stillwater for the Big 12 Championships from April 29-May 1. Texas will begin its spring season Jan. 29-30 at the Arizona Intercollegiate at the Sewallo Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona.
