The Longhorns are 10 games into their season and still have not played a true road game. Texas has played six games at the Frank Erwin Center and four on neutral sites in both China and the Bahamas.

But Texas will finally play its first actual road game of the season on Saturday when it travels to California for a matchup with Stanford.

The Longhorns are coming off a 5-0 homestand, highlighted by an 84-82 win over North Carolina. But head coach Shaka Smart wasn’t thrilled with how Texas played in its last game — a 67-55 win over Appalachian State where the game was tied midway through the second half.

“We got very conscientious guys,” Smart said. “They’re good guys, they want to win, they want to please, but there was a few different times out there when it clicked. The challenge is sustaining it for several minutes or for 40 minutes in the game.”

The Longhorns have a chance to put together a complete game against Stanford. The Cardinals are 5-3 overall and 4-1 at home, but rank last in the Pac-12 in scoring offense.

“The things that on sheer effort, we didn’t do for the most part in the first half,” senior guard Javan Felix said after the team’s win over Appalachian State. “It showed. We picked up a little bit in the second half.”

It’ll be a late start for the Longhorns, as Saturday’s game starts at 8:30 p.m. PST — 10:30 p.m. CST — on ESPN2.

Smart said it’s normal for a team to come out flat after a big win, but said the team needs to learn to play consistently, which starts with Stanford.

“If you want to be great, if you want to do the things that we say we want to do, then you can’t be normal,” Smart said. “It’s not normal to win championships, that’s why only one team does it in the whole league. It’s not normal to do special things. Otherwise it wouldn’t special, it would be normal.”
