No. 26 Texas fell short of taking down No. 8 Ohio State by a 4-0 count in their dual match Sunday.
Freshman duo Rodrigo Banzer and Harrison Scott opened doubles play with a 6-4 win over sophomore Mikael Torpegaard and junior Herkko Pollanen. Ohio State, however, clinched the doubles point after winning in both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. The Buckeyes had a 1-0 leading heading into the singles round.
Senior Michael Riechmann fell in doubles play 3-6, 3-6. Freshman George Goldhoff was defeated 4-6, 6-7 by sophomore Mikael Torpegaard. Down 3-0 and needing a win to continue the match, sophomore Adrian Ortiz went head to head with junior Herkko Pollanen. Ortiz put up a fight in a three-set match, but Pollanen took home the win 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Longhorns, now 4-4 for the season, will welcome No. 17 Stanford and Cal this coming weekend for dual match competition.
