The Longhorns shot nine over par to finish the first round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in ninth place on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Haley Mills led Texas with an even score of 72 strokes, good enough for a tie for 14th on the individual leaderboard. Mills started her round with birdies on the third and fourth holes, but bogeyed the fifth and ninth holes.
Senior Tezira Abe currently sits in a tie for 31st, two strokes back of Mills. Junior Julia Beck finished her fourth round 3-over. Senior Natalie Karcher ended her round four shots over par and tied for 51st while sophomore Sophia Schubert rounded out the Longhorns’ lineup with a round of six-over.
Arizona and Oklahoma State currently lead the way on the team leaderboard, each pulling in a round one shot under par. Stanford’s Lauren Kim leads the individual competition at four shots under par.
The second round begins at 9 a.m. today.
