Sophomore shortstop Joe Baker was arrested by UTPD on May 12 following charges of public intoxication, according to a report from the Austin American-Statesman.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Statesman, Baker was found by an officer on the corner of San Jacinto and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevards sitting next to a puddle of vomit. The affidavit also states the officer noted a strong scent of alcohol in Baker's clothing and breath. He also asked Baker to identify who Mickey Mouse is, to which Baker responded “a cat.”
Baker was suspended by head coach Augie Garrido following the incident and sat out the May 17 home matchup with Texas State, a team spokeswoman told the Statesman. The suspension was short lived, however, as Baker returned to the team for Friday and Saturday's contests with Baylor.
After sustaining a leg injury that kept the McKinney native out over a month early in the season, Baker returned in strong fashion, earning Big 12 Player of the Week from April 19 to April 24.
The Longhorns begin the Big 12 Tournament this week. Play starts on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. as Texas takes on Oklahoma State.
