The Longhorns’ finished their 2015-2016 season at the NCAA Championship Sunday, finishing 23rd at the Eugene Country Club in Oregon. USC finished in first.
“We finished 10th of 12 teams in our season opener in Minnesota and I was wondering who we were at that moment,” head coach Ryan Murphy said. “But this team worked, fought, and just continued to get a little better each week all the way through our season.”
Sophomore Sophia Schubert finished T27 — the highest finish among Texas players. Schubert had five top-10 finishes on the season. Juniors Julia Beck and Haley Mills each finished T81. Meanwhile, senior Natalie Karcher and freshman Maddie Luitweiler each finished T120.
It was a season of milestones for the Longhorns — this was their first NCAA Championship appearance since 2013. Texas also notched seven top-five finishes on the season, and finished in second at the Big 12 Championship.
“We wanted more here in Eugene, obviously, but to have arrived here is an accomplishment in itself,” Murphy said. “It's not easy getting to the National Championship. Next year, we will be back and better prepared for it than we were this year.”
