Five-star forward and McDonald’s All-American Jarrett Allen has committed to the Longhorns, according to reports from Scout, the Austin American-Statesman and ESPN.
It’s the end of a long wait for Texas. Allen had his top three down to the Longhorns, Houston and Kansas, but did not sign a National Letter of Intent by the May 18 deadline. He will instead sign an athletic scholarship agreement.
The 6-foot-10-inch power forward averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds for St. Stephen’s High School and is the No. 15 prospect in ESPN’s recruiting rankings. Head coach Shaka Smart’s recruiting class now features two five-star recruits in Allen and guard Andrew Jones, and two four-star in guard Jacob Young and center James Banks.
Allen will help fill the void of graduated centers Cameron Ridley and Prince Ibeh in the front court. Ridley averaged 11.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last season, while Ibeh averaged 4.1 points and 5.0 rebounds.
