Oklahoma State (1-0), Last Week: 3
The Cowboys decimated FCS opponent Southeastern Louisiana, winning their opener 61-7. Oklahoma State definitely maximized their roster during the contest—nine different ball carriers combined for 144 yards on the ground, and 14 players caught passes for 253 yards. With upcoming games against Chattanooga and Pittsburgh, the Cowboys have a great chance of being 3-0 going into their matchup with Baylor.
Texas (1-0), Last Week: 4
The Longhorns avenged last season’s loss to No. 10 Notre Dame in dramatic fashion, outlasting the Irish in double overtime. Freshman quarterback Shane Buechele looks like he’s the real deal, and Texas is starting to turn some heads around the country.
Oklahoma (0-1), Last Week: 1
Even with the loss to Houston, the Sooners will still be the team to beat come conference play. However, they’re not as invincible as they looked in the preseason. Issues on defense will be a major concern going forward.
TCU (1-0), Last Week: 2
The Horned Frogs won their first game of the season, but it wasn’t pretty. TCU defeated FCS school South Dakota State 59-41, and allowed the Jackrabbits to stay close until midway through the final quarter. The offense looked fine without Trevone Boykin, but the defense looks as if it hasn’t improved after last season’s struggles. The unit gave up 461 yards and only forced one turnover against what was presumed to be an overmatched opponent.
Baylor (1-0), Last Week: 6
Baylor dominated on both sides of the ball this past weekend en route to a 55-7 win over the Northwestern State Demons. In Jim Grobe’s first game as head coach, the Bears outgained their opponents by more than 400 yards. Senior quarterback Seth Russell looked efficient after coming back from injury, and the run game was unstoppable.
Texas Tech (1-0), Last Week: 5
Another year, another high-powered offense for the Red Raiders. Texas Tech amassed a whopping 758 yards of total offense in their 69-17 defeat of Stephen F Austin, and junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for more than 400 yards in the first quarter alone.
West Virginia (1-0), Last Week 8
The Mountaineers coasted to a 26-11 win over Missouri, thanks to their one-two punch in the backfield. Senior running back Rushel Shell and junior running back Justin Crawford combined for 191 yards and two touchdowns on only 37 carries.
Kansas State (0-1), Last Week 7
The Wildcats put up a valiant effort against then No. 8 Stanford, but ultimately come up short 26-13. Kansas State actually outgained the Cardinal, but were undone by turnovers and penalties.
Kansas (1-0), Last Week 10
The Jayhawks have to be feeling good this week. After going winless last season, David Beaty picked up his first win as Kansas’ head coach, with his squad routing Rhode Island 55-6.
Iowa State (0-1), Last Week 9
Ouch. The Cyclones got off to a rough start to their season, losing to FCS foe Northern Iowa 25-20. The offense turned the ball over four times, and could only muster 51 yards on the ground.
