    Stock Up: Quarterback Shane Buechele

Shane Buechele was named the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Week for the second week in a row. The freshman completed 22 passes for 244 yards. Despite being sacked three times, Buechele handled the pass rush well, countering with 50 yards on the ground. Head Coach Charlie Strong commented on Buechele’s “quiet confidence” and how it enables him to stay calm as a true freshman under the spotlight.

    Stock Down: Offensive Line

After not allowing any sacks against Notre Dame, the Longhorn offensive line broke down against UTEP. The pass rush from UTEP’s defense posed a threat in the first half and also recorded three sacks. After freshman Zach Shackelford was benched with an injury in the second quarter, junior Jake McMillon took over, struggling with a few faulty snaps to Buechele. While Strong has stated that the starters will be back in play against Cal, the second team may still need to stay on their toes, ready to step up when needed.

Stock Up: Wide Receiver Jacorey Warrick

Senior Jacorey “Petey” Warrick had a then-career-high 65 all-purpose yards in the game against Notre Dame. Last week against UTEP, Warrick stepped up at receiver, recording seven receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown. Warrick’s quickness helps him add yards after catching the ball, which was often a key for the Texas offense converting second and third downs. He will be one of the key targets to help drive the ball down the field against California.

    Stock Down: The Yellow Flag

The Longhorns have struggled with penalties in both games against Notre Dame and UTEP. This week, the penalties seemed more prevalent. The infringements ranged from sophomore Kris Boyd’s two holding calls and freshman Gerald Wilbon’s roughing the passer to Poona Ford’s unsportsmanlike conduct. The Longhorns recorded 11 penalties for 104 yards against Notre Dame and 10 for 115 yards against UTEP.
