Senior offensive lineman Kent Perkins was arrested and charged with a DWI early Friday morning, according to the Austin-American Statesman.

According to the report, police stopped Perkins near 18th and San Antonio streets at 2:52 a.m. He was released from Travis County jail after posting a $4,000 bond.

“We are aware of the situation involving Kent Perkins and gathering facts at this time,” head coach Charlie Strong said in a statement. “We’re disappointed in his actions and take a strong stance against drinking and driving. When you get behind the wheel after drinking, you not only risk your life, but the lives of others, and that’s something you just can’t do.”

Perkins has been a crucial member of Texas’ offensive line through two starts this season. The senior helped make up for the loss of graduated interior linemen Taylor Doyle and Sedrick Flowers’ while moving from tackle to guard this summer.

It’s unclear whether he will be available for the Longhorns’ upcoming matchup against Oklahoma State.

“We will make sure that Kent learns from this and handle any punishment once we have more information,” Strong said.
