At 1:36 p.m. Monday, Austin Emergency Medical Services workers responded to a call at the Texas Union, where they treated a UT employee’s non-life-threatening injury while he was working at the Union Underground, according to EMS Captain Rick Rutledge.

UTPD spokesperson Cindy Posey said the employee was doing routine maintenance. According to Rutledge, the employee was a male in his 60s and was transported to Brackenridge Hospital.

Two UTPD cars, a fire truck and an EMS ambulance arrived on scene and parked at the corner of Whitis and 24th streets. Bystanders said they saw the man being wheeled into the ambulance.

Students at the Union said they saw the man on a stretcher but didn’t know what was going on. Other employees at the Union declined to comment on the situation.
