Losses come few and far between for the No. 10 Texas men’s tennis team. The Longhorns are off to a 6-1 start to the 2017 season and find themselves in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships after a pair of victories over Drake and Oregon last weekend.
Defeats are even more sparse for Harrison Scott. The sophomore from Canada hasn’t dropped a single set since October. During his masterful run, Scott has won six straight dual-match play events to start the season.
He and the Longhorns host Virginia Tech at Weller Indoor Tennis Center this weekend. The Hokies (0-2) have struggled to garner any sort of momentum this season.
Saturday’s matchup features two programs trending in different directions. Texas cruised through its site of ITA Kick-Off Weekend while Virginia Tech lost both of its matches against San Diego and Eastern Tennessee State University.
Texas has also played more matches than its counterpart this season, which should allow the Longhorns to settle into a rhythm against the Hokies — especially in its home environment.
Saturday’s match figures to be a tuneup for higher profile matches down the stretch of the season. In addition to the ITA finals in two weeks, Texas plays No. 2 Wake Forest and No. 4 California in early March.
The match begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
