Texas men’s golf finished tied for seventh this weekend at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii, with a team total of 13-under.
Junior Doug Ghim led the team, finishing in a tie for 22nd at 5-under par, while junior Scottie Scheffler finished in a tie for 27th at 4-under.
Freshman Nick Costello finished the tournament 1-over par with Gavin Hall one behind at 2-over par. Sophomore Steven Chervony finished at 6-over par.
Ghim recorded six birdies on Saturday, including three on the back nine, on his way to a 67.
As a team, the Longhorns finished 31 shots behind Texas Tech, who won the tournament at 44-under.
Nevertheless, head coach John Fields was encouraged by what he saw from his team.
“This team has a chance to be very good,” Fields said. “Events like this provide motivation for all of us.”
Next up for Texas is the Querencia Cabo Collegiate Feb. 26-28.
