After a disappointing start to the spring season earlier this month at the Amer Ari Invitational, the No. 16 Longhorns travel south of the border to find success at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Los Cabos, Mexico, this weekend.

Although the Longhorns finished in seventh place at Waikaloa Golf Club on Feb. 4, they were a distant 31 shots behind tournament winner Texas Tech. Junior Doug Ghim led his team at 5-under 67 and individually tie for 22nd place in the tournament.

Head coach John Fields expects his team’s success to stem from the top with strong veteran performances.

“Our veterans all contributed and there were some very solid rounds,” Fields said. “This team has a chance to be very good.”

The Longhorns have to be “very good” this weekend if they hope to edge out six ranked teams in Cabo.

Top-ranked Vanderbilt headlines the field after placing second in its first tournament action of the spring season at the All-American Intercollegiate in Houston last weekend.

No. 10 Georgia cruised to a 10-shot victory during the 2016 tournament and looks to defend the crown for its second-straight season. South Florida is also hungry for success this weekend after finishing second in the tournament last spring.
