Josh Rosen
No. 3 UCLA quarterback
Rosen wrapped up the college football weekend with a bang, amassing 491 yards and four touchdowns in UCLA’s thrilling 34-point comeback win against Texas A&M. The junior once again proved his mettle in big games, delivering one of the greatest comebacks in school history.
With Rosen’s Heisman odds rising to 8-1, he’ll have some added confidence heading into the Bruins’ matchup with Hawaii, a game in which Rosen shouldn’t have too many problems.
Baker Mayfield
No. 5 Oklahoma quarterback
Mayfield had a solid opener against UTEP last Saturday, throwing for 329 yards and three touchdowns in a 56-7 Oklahoma win. The redshirt senior continued to exhibit his prowess in the passing game, with each of his three touchdowns going to different receivers and only one incompletion to go along with it.
Mayfield won’t be able to sit out a half this weekend, though. The Sooners will travel to Columbus for a rematch with No. 2 Ohio State, and Mayfield is sure to have revenge for last year’s 45-24 loss on his mind.
Lamar Jackson
No. 17 Louisville quarterback
Jackson had a solid outing this weekend against Purdue, passing for 378 yards and two touchdowns. The multifaceted junior also led the team in rushing, picking up 107 yards on the ground. This all-around display shows why Jackson will continue to make a case to be a repeat Heisman winner.
The Cardinals will travel to Chapel Hill this Saturday to take on North Carolina, and Jackson should be able to have his way with a defense that surrendered 469 total yards to California last week.
Saquon Barkley
No. 4 Penn State running back
The junior back started the season off strong against Akron, rushing for 174 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, including an 80-yard scamper to the end zone. Barkley also caught three passes for 54 yards, accounting for almost half of Penn State’s offensive yardage in the 52-0 shutout over the Zips.
Barkley’s display helped him have the most significant improvement in Heisman odds over the weekend. The Nittany Lions to face Pittsburgh this weekend at home, going in as 22-point favorites.
J.T. Barrett
No. 2 Ohio State quarterback
Barrett took a little time to get going against Indiana, but the result was impressive: 304 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, 61 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. The versatile senior proved his mettle against the Hoosiers, helping the Buckeyes erase an early deficit and finish in dominant fashion.
The Buckeyes head into a clash with No. 5 Oklahoma — one of the most highly-anticipated games this weekend. Barrett had a lot of success during last season’s 45-24 win over the Sooners, and a victory this Saturday can solidify both his Heisman résumé and NFL Draft stock.
