Freshman setter Ashley Shook earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors for her efforts in Texas’ road wins over Texas Tech and Oklahoma last week. Shook registered 17 digs, 84 assists (12 per set) and five blocks in the two contests and even managed to tally four kills in the victory over Oklahoma. The freshman, who ranks first on the team with 656 assists this season, led the Longhorns to a sweep in Lubbock on Wednesday night, followed up with a 3-1 victory over Oklahoma on Sunday. Texas is now in the midst of a 10-game winning streak, preserving an undefeated 8–0 record in Big 12 matches.
Shook’s Big 12 Freshman of the Week award is her second of the season, previously earning the recognition on Oct. 2. Shook’s teammate, freshman outside hitter Lexi Sun, has also won the distinction three times this season. The Texas’ young dynamic duo combines for five Freshman of the Week awards in 2017. The Big 12 frontrunners are frequent recipients of conference honors, additionally claiming the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions thus far.
