Over the weekend, former Longhorns provided several storylines both on and off the field. Here are some of the most memorable performances of the week.
Hassan Ridgeway
Ridgeway and the Colts fell to the Steelers on Sunday. But despite the loss, the defensive lineman had one of his better games of his year. He ended up in the sack column for the first time since Week Two. The former fourth-round pick helped the Colts keep Le’Veon Bell, arguably the league’s top running back, to just over three yards per carry.
The former Texas starter has had a pedestrian season thus far. In 10 games, he has only recorded nine tackles and two sacks. While Ridgeway has never been known as a sack master, his production in terms of tackling has been very low. He will have to wait until Nov. 26 to raise his performance, as the Colts are on their bye this week.
Earl Thomas
Thomas has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury sustained against the Houston Texans. The All-Pro safety is questionable to return on Monday night as the Seahawks take on the Falcons. Thomas, not a stranger to big moments, will have an integral role this week. Cornerback Richard Sherman is out for the rest of the season with a ruptured achilles, and safety Kam Chancellor is most likely out with what head coach Pete Carroll is calling a “stinger.”
Marquise Goodwin
Football took a backseat for Marquise Goodwin on Sunday. Leading up to the game, Goodwin and his wife lost their son, Marquise Jr. But in light of this tragedy, the speedy wide receiver for the 49ers decided to play. He had 18 rushing yards to go along with one catch. However, that one catch turned into one of the weekend’s most memorable moments. Goodwin ran a skinny post across the middle of the field and caught a pass from quarterback C.J. Beathard for an 83-yard score. After the touchdown, Goodwin fell to his knees and cradled the football as he was surrounded and embraced by his teammates.
Marquise will be back in action in two weeks when the 49ers return from their bye week.
