No. 8 Texas (13–4, 4–0 Big 12) made quick work of their opponents this weekend, adding two more wins and remaining undefeated in conference play.
The Longhorns’ successful weekend started Friday evening in the Texas Tennis Center against rival No. 49 Oklahoma, who didn’t put up much of a fight. After taking the doubles point in the first session of play, the Longhorns would proceed to defeat OU in the singles session and claim a 4-0 victory. While the win over the Sooners was decisive, the team’s play didn’t impress Head Coach Howard Joffe.
“Obviously, it’s always a good day to win a conference match and always a good day if we’re able to beat Oklahoma, with the rivalry and all of that,” Joffe said. “But if I look at the match substantively, we definitely didn’t perform very well in the doubles.”
Texas returned to the Tennis Center on Sunday to face off against an experienced and perennially successful Oklahoma State team. After taking the opening doubles point, the Longhorns dominated the No. 12 Cowgirls in the singles session, winning three more matches and making the necessary adjustments to please Coach Joffe.
“Today was definitely a vast upgrade in terms of our collective psyche, motivation and stick-to-it-iveness to the task,” Joffe said. “Not coincidentally, I think that we performed much better today. Definitely, this is a big win for us.”
The Longhorns will return to play next Sunday in Lake Nona, Florida, to face off against No. 18 Florida.
