Freshmen defensive back DeMarvion Overshown and linebacker Ayodele Adeoye have both been ruled out for the Longhorns’ season opener against Maryland on Sept. 1, Texas football announced on Wednesday afternoon.
This comes three days after the program announced that both Adeoye and Overshown sustained knee injuries during the Longhorns’ scrimmage on Saturday morning.
“They continue to receive treatment and are rehabilitating their injuries,” the program said in the announcement. “There is no timetable for their return, but they have been ruled out for the Longhorns' season opener at Maryland. “
While there is no timetable for their return, the program said the medical staff has determined that both freshmen will “miss an extended period of time.”
Overshown is listed and was recruited as a defensive back, but received reps at linebacker after Jeffrey McCulloh strained his pectoral muscle last week. With the linebacker unit already struggling with depth issues, there is no doubt these two injuries could take their toll down the road.
Senior defensive back Davante Davis sustained a hamstring injury in Saturday’s scrimmage as well, but the program has yet to announce the severity of his injury.
