Freshman guard Shae Routt was hospitalized Sunday after fainting during the first 10 minutes of practice Sunday afternoon. It was the first organized practice of the year for the Longhorns.
Routt and the team were warming up with running drills when she fainted. EMS and Austin Fire Department arrived at Cooley Pavilion and transported her to the hospital within the hour. She was taken to St. David’s Hospital, a short drive from the practice facility.
Texas Athletics released a statement late Sunday evening on Routt’s condition:
“Freshman Texas women’s basketball player Shae Routt fainted during practice on Sunday. She was taken to the hospital for a series of medical tests, all of which came back normal. She was released from the hospital on Sunday evening. Shae will continue to be evaluated by the Texas medical staff to determine when she can return to action.”
