After arguably one of his best performances as a Longhorn, Texas’ sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger was named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week.
Ehlinger finished the day with five total touchdowns, three on the ground and two through the air, with 314 passing yards and 72 rushing yards in Texas’ 48-45 victory over Oklahoma on Saturday.
Ehlinger’s five total touchdowns is the most touchdowns ever completed by a Longhorn quarterback in the Red River Rivalry. His 386 total yards is the second most against Oklahoma all-time, just behind the record of 388 yards, which he set last year.
“Being a part of this tradition and playing in such an incredible rivalry is a blessing and I am reminded of that every year,” Ehlinger said. “It is definitely a game that we have circled every year. It means a lot to us … I can’t put to words how incredible this rivalry and being a part of it is.”
Since losing to Maryland, the Longhorns are riding a five-game winning streak with Ehlinger recording zero turnovers.
Ehlinger and the Longhorns look to remain undefeated in conference play as they face Baylor at home next week.
