Student arrested, charged with perjury in regard to alleged kidnapping

Update (Friday 3:33 p.m.): A University of Texas student was arrested Thursday and charged with perjury and providing false information to a police officer. 

Chemical engineering sophomore Daniel Mullan told officers and KXAN that two men kidnapped and robbed him in East Riverside. The incident happened the afternoon of Nov. 7, according to a tweet rom APD. The Austin Police Department issued a plea for help Monday in identifying one of the men suspected of robbing and kidnapping Mullan in East Riverside, and an arrest warrant was issued for one of the alleged suspects. The District Attorney's office later confirmed charges were dropped against the suspect because of insufficient evidence.

According to KXAN, the student was walking home from a bus stop when he was approached by two people in a car and kidnapped. The student said he was driven around to multiple ATMs and a bank, where the suspects drained his bank account.

In the last month, there have been 16 crimes reported at the apartment complex on Crossing Place where the robbery happened, according to data from APD.
