State Sen. Charles Schwertner, R-Georgetown, has told Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, the Senate leader, he wants to give up his chairmanship of the Health and Human Services Committee. This follows an inconclusive investigation into allegations of harassment made by a UT graduate student.
The graduate student primarily accused Schwertner of sending lewd messages, including one that said, “I just really want to f— you.” Schwertner denied sending the messages.
The UT investigation could not find clear evidence that Schwertner did or did not send the messages, and said it was possible a third party could have sent them.
