Although the Longhorns will host Northern Colorado (Nov. 5), McNeese State (Nov. 30), University of Alabama – Birmingham (Dec. 3), Central Michigan (Dec. 14), and High Point (Dec. 30) at home in the Frank Erwin Center, fans will have to travel to see the most interesting nonconference games in store for the next season. On Nov. 21, Texas will travel back to Madison Square Garden for the Empire Classic Championship benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project. Although the bracket is not yet set, the other teams participating in Empire Classic are California, Duke, and Georgetown. After hoisting the NIT trophy in MSG earlier this year, Texas will look to continue to find success in New York yet again.

The marquee nonconference matchup on the Longhorns schedule is a meeting with Texas A&M at Dickies Arena in Ft. Worth on Dec. 8. No matter how both teams are playing, rivalries with this much bad-blood always seem to be competitive. In their first meeting since 2015, the Longhorns and the Aggies will be playing for their pride on a big stage.

Including a yet to be announced opponent in the Big 12/SEC Challenge on January 25, next season’s out of conference schedule includes a handful of interesting matchups that will certainly put the Longhorns’ development under Shaka Smart to the test. The Longhorns pulled off some impressive wins and suffered some devastating losses last season, but if the Longhorns are able to generate momentum during nonconference play, they have plenty of opportunities to win against quality opponents as they head into Big 12 Conference play.
