The Big 12 Conference revealed the conference schedule on Wednesday for the upcoming 2019-20 women’s basketball season. As is standard, every team will have 18 conference games, with a double round-robin format in place for the eighth-consecutive year.
Texas will begin their conference slate with a home game against TCU on Jan. 3. The Longhorns defeated the Horned Frogs at home last season 73-67, on the way to a 5–4 home conference record.
The Longhorns will hit the road twice after that, with a big road matchup against Iowa State on Jan. 6. Last year, the teams split their regular season matchups – with both road teams winning – but the Cyclones knocked the Longhorns out of the Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City.
Speaking of the Big 12 Championship, the conference also announced that for the first time since 2012, this year’s postseason conference tournament will be held in Kansas City, Missouri, where the men’s basketball Big 12 Championship has been held since 2010.
Texas’ first opportunity to make a big statement in conference play will arguably come on the road in the Little Apple against Kansas State on Jan. 19. Last year, the Wildcats had the Longhorns’ number, winning both matchups, including a dominant 18-point win at home that snapped a seven-game winning streak Texas had at the time. Texas will host Kansas State at home on Feb. 22.
After a home game against Kansas – who Texas beat twice last year by a combined margin of 37 – the Longhorns will take a tour across the Red River as they face Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Jan. 25 and then go to Norman for a matchup against Oklahoma three days later on Jan. 28.
The biggest game at home, however, will be Jan. 31 when the Baylor Bears come into town. Last year, the Bears won both matchups but the game in Austin came down to the wire before Baylor put the game away with free throws. The Bears are likely to enter the game ranked near the top of the polls again this year.
Texas will finish their conference slate with a matchup against Oklahoma State on March 8 at home, a team they beat in both of their meetings last season.
The Big 12 Championship will be the conclusion of the conference schedule and will take place in Kansas City from March 12-15, 2020.
