For those Longhorn fans starving to get back out to the raucous pregame atmosphere of Bevo Boulevard or Occupy Left Field, the wait will soon come to an end — sort of.
Texas Athletics announced via a press release today that on May 1, it will be hosting “My Texas Tailgate,” an all-day virtual event geared toward uniting Texas fans from across the country.
"A united Longhorn Nation is like no other,” Texas Athletics Director Chris Del Conte said. “During these difficult times, we miss seeing all of you on a daily basis whether that's on campus, in the stands, or when our teams travel across the country. My Texas Tailgate will be an awesome opportunity for all of us to come together for the biggest burnt orange virtual tailgate in history."
Per the release, the event will include programming from current student-athletes and head coaches as well as “prominent alumni,” reruns of some of the best sporting events from the 2019-20 season, Longhorn City Limits performances and more.
With all sporting events canceled for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year, this will be the only glimpse of Longhorn sports for Texas fans until the fall. The University announced today that a decision on the status of the fall semester will be made before the end of June.
So until then, Longhorn fans can only hope that this is just a taste of what is to come on Saturdays in the fall.
