Texas’ freshmen women’s tennis duos once again dominated their opponents in a Big 12 win on Sunday, this time against their Red River rivals.
Freshmen Charlotte Chavatipon and Peyton Stearns have continuously helped to secure a doubles point together in the previous four matches, and Sunday was no different.
The two continued their streak in a commanding 6-1 win in the first set against Oklahoma freshman Dana Guzman and junior Kianah Motosono. After a quick rally from Oklahoma, Chavatipon closed the set with a powerful return just out of her opponents’ reach.
Minutes later on doubles court No. 1, freshmen Kylie Collins and Lulu Sun notched the Longhorns' second win of the day, clinching the point for the doubles matches with a 6-3 victory.
After a practically perfect serve, Sun ended the match with a seemingly effortless return to Oklahoma. Unable to return the ball, Oklahoma’s sister doubles team, sophomore Carmen Corley and junior Ivana Corley, quickly fell to the impressive Texas freshmen duo.
Sun’s dominance continued into her singles match against Ivana, and the Longhorn freshman claimed the first singles point of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win, sending the Longhorns into a 2-0 lead over the Sooners.
Facing the other Corley sister, Carmen, on singles court No. 1, No. 66-ranked singles player Stearns grabbed another singles point for the Longhorns with a 6-1, 6-4 victory, the Longhorns’ second singles match point of the day.
Texas sent the Sooners back over the Red River after a 7-0 sweep, maintaining their perfect record at the Texas Tennis Center this season.
