Texas women’s tennis swept Texas State 7-0 Tuesday afternoon behind impressive performances from senior duo Fernanda Labraña and Anna Turati and other singles wins from senior Marta Perez Mur, freshman Malaika Rapolu and junior Tijana Spasojevic. The Longhorns continued their perfect record at home this season.

Looking to continue their impressive streak of dominant victories, Labraña and Turati lined up on doubles court 1 Tuesday against Texas State seniors Hana Kvapilova and Rishona Israel-Lewis.

Pushed up to the No. 71 doubles rank after their much-needed win against the No. 7 Baylor Bears, Turati and Labraña returned to the doubles courts hungry for more. The pair grabbed an early lead off of a ridiculously quick return at the net by Turati.

Although the match was abandoned as the Longhorns had already secured the point for doubles matches, Labraña and Turati put on an impressive display and left the court with a 5-4 lead over Texas State.

In their doubles match debut as a pair, freshman Simran Kortikere and sophomore Gabby Cusano did not disappoint on doubles court 3 today.

Although it was their first doubles match together, the two operated as if they had played together millions of times. The duo managed to claim a swift 6-2 first set victory — and the Longhorn’s first doubles win of the day — off of a perfect serve from Cusano.

Turati was just named Big 12’s Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for her outstanding performances against Rice and Baylor. Her dominant victories on the singles court also bumped her up to a singles rank of No. 18.

Fighting closer and closer toward the top of the ranks as the season presses on, Turati took to the singles court with hopes of further improving her already perfect singles match record. She wasted no time defending it.

Turati briefly fell behind 3-2 in the second set but came out swinging after a short break and quickly regained a 5-3 lead. Rushing to the net and sending the ball far beyond the reach of her opponent, Turati secured the win and protected her perfect record.

After a clutch 10-7 victory against Baylor’s No. 111 Alicia Herrero-Linana, freshman Lulu Sun secured the first set with a 6-3 win and took a 1-0 lead early in the second set after literally sliding into her opponent’s return. After sending her opponent back and forth across the court with some precisely placed returns, Sun clinched a 6-1 second set win, giving Texas a 3-0 lead.

After a perfect 6-0 first set, Labraña kept her foot on the gas and propelled herself into a quick 2-0 lead in the second set.

In an amazing one-footed return, Labraña leapt into the air and cracked the ball right back to her opponent with a two-handed backhand worthy of a classic Turati “Forza.” The senior refused to let up and continued dominating throughout the second set, notching the Longhorns’ first singles victory of the day.

Texas returns to action Friday afternoon against the University of Houston.
