UT-Austin now offers walk-up COVID-19 vaccinations every weekday

Walk-up COVID-19 vaccine appointments are now available every weekday from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. for students, faculty, staff and members of the Austin community at Gregory Gym. A photo ID is required.

Susan Hochman, associate director of assessment, communications and health information technology for University Health Services, said UHS was able to open walk-up appointments because it has the needed vaccine supply and open appointments. UT Health Austin was allocated 8,190 first doses of the BioNTech Pfizer vaccine this week, according to the Department of State Health Services weekly vaccine allocations.

“It’s another way to get people in to get vaccinated, and it’s especially important right now because we want students to be able to get vaccinated … prior to the end of the semester, so this week in particular is a critical week to get people in,” Hochman said.

The number of walk-up appointments will vary each day depending on how many scheduled appointments there are, Hochman said. If someone is unable to get a vaccine because UHS ran out of walk-up slots or they showed up outside of the times, Hochman said they will be able to register at Gregory Gym for a vaccine the next or subsequent day.

Anyone who is a minor will need a parent or legal guardian to complete a consent form before getting the vaccine.

Editor’s Note: This story has been corrected to show that minors do not need parents or legal guardians to come with them to receive the vaccine. It also been corrected to reflect that people who are vaccinated through walk-up appointments will not need to submit a COVID-19 vaccine form. The Texan regrets this error.
