September 21, 2022
Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect the updates to the merchandise line from 9:30 a.m. to now 11 a.m.
The live music capital of the world can expect to get a “Watermelon Sugar” high as superstar Harry Styles takes the stage at the Moody Center for an unprecedented mini-residency from Sept. 25 to Oct. 3. Whether “Daydreaming” or doing a little “Late Night Talking,” The Daily Texan compiled a guide so students can head to the concert feeling “Golden.”
Arrival, Items & Moody Center
With a long line to see the British singer, people should treat each other with kindness. Moody Center strictly prohibits camping outside the concert venue.
The first 1,000 fans will receive wristbands for pit admission, with parking in the East Campus Garage from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The general admission pit line will re-open at 4:30 p.m. for those with wristbands and GA ticket holders before closing at 5:30 p.m. Moody Center officials will send GA ticket holders who arrive late to the back of the line. Doors officially open for all attendees at 6:30 p.m.
Die-hard fans might check out the merchandise store, which opens at 11 a.m. Harry Styles merch bags will make it through security, along with flags without hardware and signs without negative messaging.
The Moody Center promises nonstop “Instagrammable” moments for all 15,000 fans, plus live pre-concert performances from local artists outside.
“When you have it like Harry Styles does, the fans come to you … it’s bringing a lot of business to the city that we wouldn’t otherwise have if it wasn’t a mini-residency,” Veronica Cantu, the Moody Center’s vice president of marketing, said.
What to Wear
Fans should make sure their outfit becomes a “Sign of the Times,” exploring a retro-yet-flashy vibe from head to toe.
Get into the groove with flare pants or bell bottoms, plus fringes, sequins or even jumpsuits are perfect for fans. But of course, Austinites can bring some western edge with a pair of classic boots. Vintage tees will suffice too.
Finally, complete the outfit with a boa and some quirky shades.
What Songs?
While fans might be disappointed not hearing the beautifully melancholy “Fine Line,” Styles’ setlist demonstrates his fluid artistry, incorporating hits from all three of his albums. A few cuts from Fine Line and Harry Styles will energize longtime fans with tokens of nostalgia. Plus, expect a throwback to One Direction with “What Makes You Beautiful” and, if he’s feeling the crowd’s love, fan-favorite “Medicine”.
What’s Next?
Styles won’t be so lonely after departing Austin. Next, he graces Chicago and Los Angeles before heading to Latin America to close out the 2022 leg of his tour. In February, he’ll return to Oceania before hitting Europe next summer.
With Styles currently working on his fourth studio album, he intentionally designed the residency-style tour to allow him to work in the studio on his next smash-hit.
Enjoy the show, and remember it “As It Was.”
