A game day playlist for OU weekend

It is finally time for Longhorns fans to grab their cowboy boots and burnt orange clothing in preparation for this year’s Red River Showdown at the Cotton Bowl stadium in Dallas. The UT and OU rivalry runs deep on both sides, so fans must be well-equipped for a weekend of intense highs and lows. The Daily Texan compiled a list of songs to make the perfect soundtrack for the upcoming weekend.

“Big Steppa” by Flo Milli

Fashion makes up a big part of every game day, and to get started on the right note, every Longhorn needs the perfect powerhouse song to blast while getting ready. This song will leave all listeners feeling confident in themselves and their team as they make their way towards the Cotton Bowl.

“Texas Longhorn” by Django Walker

Walker’s beloved Longhorn anthem embodies UT school spirit. Each and every game day, this track radiates from speakers throughout the streets of Austin, making it a quintessential song of any Longhorn tailgate or watch party.

“People Are Crazy” by Billy Currington

Despite a series of losses to Oklahoma following the Longhorns’ 2018 victory, Texas fans continue to show their support for the Longhorns every year. While securing another national championship might seem like a crazy goal, UT fans still maintain a glimmer of hope, showing up with spirit at each match with OU.

“Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey

Even when down in the final quarter, Texas fans never stop believin’ in their team. Until the clock hits zero, UT students maintain faith that the Longhorns can pull off a win and upset any rival — even the Sooners.

“Take Me To Texas” by George Strait

Whether UT wins or loses the game in Dallas, students will return to the comforts of Austin afterward. From the Congress Avenue Bridge bats to Barton Springs, Austin offers many pleasures fans can take pride in, regardless of this weekend’s game results.

“Hotel Room Service” by Pitbull

This Pitbull fan favorite makes the perfect track for students staying in hotels by the stadium. Whether hyping up a game day group Saturday morning before kickoff or celebrating the inevitable Texas win, this song will keep Longhorns amped up all weekend.

“Break My Soul” by Beyoncé

On this summertime single, Beyoncé declares herself free from her day-to-day stressors in an anthem of confidence and celebration. For many UT students, OU weekend offers an escape from school, work and midterm exams, making this track a perfect tune to keep spirits high on the trip to and from Dallas.

“Stay Gold” by Stevie Wonder

As the sun sets on Red River Showdown weekend, Longhorn fans can look to the approaching downtown Austin skyline while listening to Stevie Wonder’s smooth croons and melodic harmonica lines on “Stay Gold.” Regardless of how the game went, all fans can blast this grandiose reflective track in the car with friends on the way back to reality.
