Longhorns in the NFL – Week 10

D’Onta Foreman

Former Texas running back D’Onta Foreman has bounced from team to team after initially being drafted by the Houston Texans in 2017. After landing with the Carolina Panthers, it seemed like the former Doak Walker Award winner would be the backup to star Christian McCaffrey for the foreseeable future. However, the Panthers traded McCaffrey away, hoisting Foreman into the starting role.

In his two games as the lead back, Foreman rushed for 236 yards and three touchdowns. The first of his two starts helped lead the Panthers to a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team chosen by nearly every expert to win the NFC South.

Sam Ehlinger

After being selected in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, former Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger played backup to pro-bowler Carson Wentz and former MVP Matt Ryan. The Indianapolis Colts struggled to start the season and gave Ehlinger a chance to help turn things around. Ehlinger was given the starting quarterback role over Ryan last week against the Washington Commanders.

In his Week 8 matchup versus the Commanders, Ehlinger threw for 201 yards and led the Colts on a touchdown drive to extend the lead early in the fourth quarter. Ultimately, Indianapolis fell to Washington 17-16 thanks to a game-winning drive by Taylor Heinicke.

Ehlinger finished the game with a 73.9 completion percentage. He also had a QBR of 66.9,  which ranks 10th out of the 30 quarterbacks in action this past week.

Devin Duvernay

The Baltimore Ravens have a hole at the wide receiver position after trading away Marquise Brown this offseason. The team’s lead receiver, Rashod Bateman, is dealing with a foot injury, giving Duvernay an opportunity to fill in.

Thanks to his speed, Duvernay is an easy target for star quarterback Lamar Jackson, and head coach John Harbaugh has opted to utilize the former Texas wideout in a lot of jet-sweeps and motion plays.

Duvernay has put together a successful season thus far, totaling 313 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 24 receptions. He has also rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown.

Marquise Goodwin

The Seattle Seahawks are currently on a four-game winning streak, and former Texas wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is a contributor to that success.

Goodwin signed with the Seahawks this offseason and emerged as one of Seattle’s better receivers in an already talented group headlined by D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. In his past two games, Goodwin notched eight receptions for 100 yards.

In a Week 7 matchup versus the Los Angeles Chargers, Metcalf exited the game late in the first quarter due to a knee injury. Goodwin stepped up, scoring two touchdowns and helping lead the Seahawks to an upset win and a 4-3 record.
