Texas signee and five-star recruit Ron Holland has decommitted from Texas and requested a release from his National Letter of Intent, per his social media Friday. Holland is opening his recruitment and will continue to consider Texas.

Holland is the No. 6 recruit in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite. A 6-8 wing from Duncanville, Johnson was one of two high-profile recruits in Texas’ 2023 freshman class. The other, AJ Johnson, decommitted from Texas and is headed to the Illawarra Hawks of the Australian NBL. Texas now has no commitments in the 2023 cycle.

Holland’s decommitment marks a turbulent week for Texas, just hours after Oral Roberts’ transfer guard Max Abmas committed to the Horns. Rodney Terry also received a commitment from Virginia forward/center Kadin Shedrick this week, in addition to the return of senior forward Dylan Disu.
