For college students, tuition can prove a burden that many face for decades after they graduate, leaving them with limited options to pay for the things they want or need. Luckily, these five companies offer college students free or discounted prices to mitigate the burden of paying for goods and services.
The New York Times
As of this year, the UT library system has gained access to The New York Times as a campus-wide library resource, meaning all UT students have access to the newspaper for free. Included in the University subscription are the daily news, games, The Athletic, international editions, any NYT videos or blogs and learning tools. In order to access the campus-wide subscription, visit accessnyt.com, search for University of Texas at Austin, and follow the steps for on-campus setup.
Amazon Prime
Amazon offers Prime subscriptions to students for nearly fifty percent off ($69 per year). Included in this membership are discounts on textbooks, a free Grubhub+ membership, 10% off flights and hotels through StudentUniverse and Amazon Music Unlimited for $1 a month. To access these deals, search Amazon Prime Student and sign up for the membership to enjoy half off Prime and other discounted deals.
Spotify
Spotify offers premium subscriptions for students for nearly 50% off ($5.99 per month), and the first month is free. Spotify Premium Student subscriptions provide access to services such as ad-free music, on-demand playback and offline music downloading. This membership comes with one month of free access to Hulu. Access to Student Premium can be found through the Spotify website and can be canceled at any time.
DoorDash
DoorDash offers DashPass for students for over 50% off ($4.99 per month), which includes $0 delivery fees and 5% DoorDash credit on all pickup orders and more. In order to access Student DashPass, open the DoorDash app, tap “Get $0 delivery fees with DashPass,” select “DashPass Student Plan” and verify you are a student at UT. After following these steps, select either a monthly or annual plan and enjoy cheaper delivery and credit for free meals.
Apple
For students who need a computer for classes, Apple offers student discounts ranging from $50 to $150. Apple designates a separate part of their website for products priced specifically for college students, their parents and faculty and staff. To find these discounts, search for the Apple Education store to find computers, iPads and tech accessories catered to college students.
